Record Number of New Cadets Arrives at VMI

If Rockbridge area residents felt a seismic shift Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026, it was almost certainly due to the arrival of the largest class of new cadets ever—532—to matriculate at VMI. This historic milestone marks the beginning of the Institute’s 187th year. Since 1839, VMI has produced educated and honorable citizen-leaders, with a global reputation for academic excellence.

“My True Passion”: Eger ’21 Receives Prestigious Olmsted Scholarship

U.S. Navy Lt. Jonah Eger ’21 was one of 16 U.S. military officers named to the Olmsted Scholar Class of 2027 by the board of the Falls Church, Virginia-based Olmsted Foundation this past March.
